About Tara
I am currently tutoring high school students at a private school to support them with their academic work. I'm a positive and encouraging tutor who believes that making a connection with a student is key to successful tutoring. I want my students to ask lots of questions and to let me know when they feel uncertain or confused about the material. If something in the session is not working, we'll try another approach. I also have lots of simple strategies in my "toobox" that I can teach you to help with studying, writing, and reading comprehension. Sometimes just finding the best way can help you improve your skills immensely.

I have 23 years of classroom experience with teaching literature and composition to middle school, high school and college students. Former speech and debate coach, writing center director, and academic tutor.
I work to be very organized and clear with lesson plans. Student questions are at the heart of what we discuss; I can adapt quickly to what a student needs during a session. I am patient, friendly, and approachable. My motto is "Practice makes progress" because writing takes progress just like any other skill.
I can tutor for regular and AP English classes, the reading and writing sections of the SAT and ACT, remedial reading and writing, and public speaking. I'm also experienced with tutoring for American and modern world history.
