About Marcel
Having worked as an English and German teacher during my studies of English Philology and also after graduating, more than 10 years ago I decided to take a job as an English translator and interpreter because it gives me the opportunity to constantly expand my knowledge of the language.
However, I have continued to pursue my passion for teaching languages on a part-time basis and done the Cambridge teacher training course (CELTA) as well as number of other training courses.
Due to my interpreting assignments, I am used to familiarze myself with a wide variety of subject areas in a short time and thus offer classes tailored to your professional requirements and interests.
Being an enthusiastic language learner myself (currently working on Portuguese C2), I can provide many tips on how to improve your language level through suitable input such as podcasts, spaced repetition, etc. outside of the classroom.

The focus of my teaching is to actually enable learners to communicate in the target language. From my own experience I know that 2 months of good, communicative language training paired with additional adequate input can make you communicate much better in a foreign language than many years of grammar-focused lessons - because just like a sport, you can't really learn a language by just reading the rule book.
It is therefore important to me to offer a positive learning environment in which the learner feels comfortable to speak and make mistakes, because these open up the opportunity to address language points and improve the corresponding grammar.
In recent years I have regularly taken part in teacher training courses (International House London, British Council, etc.), and am familiar with the latest research and teaching methods.
