About Anne-Marie

I've been teaching ESL virtually since 2019. I really love that this job allows me to meet students from around the world and a variety of backgrounds. My experience involves teaching both children and adults. I have helped students improve their speaking abilities and pronunciation as well as help young children learn how to read.

About the lesson

My lessons are best for high-beginner and intermediate students who don't often get to practice speaking skills and would like to feel more comfortable having conversations with native speakers. In my lessons, I like to have interesting conversations with students and play speaking games that keep the lessons fun and engaging. Occasionally, I like to read articles with students to add to their vocabulary and give us more material to discuss. Through my years of teaching experience, I've seen that students improve their speaking skills when I can help them notice the mistakes they keep repeating in the moment. I typically choose 1-2 areas to focus on each lesson. Here's the general process that I've witnessed: First, I point out the mistakes as they are happening, next the student begins to catch their own mistakes, and finally the student is no longer making those particular errors. Depending on the student, this process can happen in one lesson or it may take several lessons for the student to eliminate one repeating grammar error. I don't do any test preparation at this point, and I don't follow a stringent curriculum. Typically, I'll discuss with the student what their learning priorities are, and we go from there! :)

I received English classes consistently with Anne-Marie. At first, the conversation in English was difficult, I couldn't hear well, and my pronunciation was very awkward. But now I can have a conversation in English without fear because the teacher listened carefully and guided me consistently. She is a kind and patient bright English teacher. I think she will be a better teacher, especially for children. I highly recommend it. :)
