About Serena
I have always been told that I am a patient, outgoing, and understanding being. It is important to me that students feel valued when they do schoolwork, like what they are trying to accomplish is worth the work. I never felt like I was valued as a kid when it came to my schoolwork. I felt that how I felt about myself didn’t matter as much as my grades. In some ways, this is true, but a child needs to feel confident in themselves in order for them to do well. I am here to be understanding, and to repeat concepts as much as I need to for a student to feel like they understand without feeling disrespected, and in the wrong for not understanding. I want to be the clarity in the lives of many children.

I am amazing with children, and I have a passion for English and Math. My 11 year old brother has severe ADHD and I have grown such a passion to be patient with him and teach him despite his disability to focus. I have gained so much love for explaining confusing concepts to children, and I want to be a part of a child’s journey to success. I remember being stuck on math questions, wondering why I got horrible marks on tests previously, and I know the demeaning feeling children can feel from this. It is easy to feel guilty, like a “let down” to those around them. I feel that it is my mission to boost the confidence of children when it comes to academic success, because after all, confidence is indeed the foundation to becoming better at a difficult subject.
