It has been happening since the times of Xena and continues with tv shows like The 100. But there are pretty much about anything: Harry Potter, Buffy, Dragon Age ... If you can imagine it, almost certainly somewhere in the world someone has written a fanfic . Another advantage is that you learn much more from the English-speaking culture than any textbook can teach you.
