About EDMUND

I have five children and so am very familiar with family life!

I live in a village, with which I am very involved, about fifty miles north of London, in an area known as the Essex/Suffolk border. However London is only just over an hour away and I visit it regularly

My interests are my library, conversation collecting various kinds of things, and country walks.

I love teaching, which is my life and also in my genes as I am a fourth generation teacher. In my time I have also taught Theatre and Film Studies to A level, as well as Art History, and Philosophy in Adult Education, but these wider interests mainly support my teaching of English, which is my absolute heartland subject.

About the lesson

I get on extremely well with students of all ages while sympathetically guiding them in a systematic approach to accurate reading, writing, and the study of literature. My love of English is infectious!

Friendly and outgoing, I am at present successfully teaching students from the age of six to teenagers. Apart from GCSE and A Level work, I also cover Common Entrance and have recently helped students win places at Eton and Winchester.

My approach to coaching is closely tailored to each student's individual needs:

- An initial review of syllabus objectives, and assessment of existing skill levels and knowledge base.

- A diagnosis of key areas needing support.

- An agreed, flexible and student-centred study plan, matched to any exam timescale.

- Regular progress monitoring, with constant feedback for both pupil and parents, often in a brief chat after each lesson.

Marking of work and production of study materials is included in the lesson fee.

I make myself available at all times for telephone or email consultation.

There is no charge for cancelled lessons.
