About Dean
I have been speaking English for 60 years now. I began reading at 4 years of age. I still remember that! It became my favorite pasttime. 3 years ago i began studying Spanish, which i really enjoyed. Then, last year, i added Danish, Russian, German, French, and even Gaelic to my list! Everyday i study. I say this because, like you, i also am a language learner, and as such, i can relate to others' experiences of learning. Like anything worthwhile doing, there are moments of frustration and doubt. However, there are also times of victory and great reward for the hard work you've put in. I am fairly new as a teacher. All of my life my friends and family have told me that i am good with people AND with explaining things in an understandable way. This helped motivate me last year to take a certified ESL course through the International TEFL Academy. I get a real feeling of satisfaction that is hard to explain when a student has that moment of "getting it". So, why don't we grow together...you as a language learner, and myself as a teacher?! Our lessons will be loosely structured at first as we see where your strengths and weaknesses are. There will be verbal lessons where we just talk about things that interest you...your family, entertainment, etc. You will also learn to read and write in English using practical life applications, such as ordering out at a restaurant, talking with a doctor, meeting people, etc. You will learn idioms of the English language, which all languages have. These are culturally familiar sayings that at face value seem odd, but have a cultural/societal understanding that comes with them.
