About Sylvia
I am an older woman who's lived an interesting life. I love teaching English to people from other nations and other histories because it's so important to be reminded that there are other ways of living and being in the world. But mainly I enjoy teaching English because I am good at it and students appreciate the quality and style of my teaching.

Whatever the level I'm teaching, l strive to make my lessons interesting, fun and engaging, with the minimum of teacher talk and maximum student talk, where possible and appropriate. Part of the trick to maintaining interest is to change the style of interaction/engagement with the learning; every 20-30 minutes as a rule of thumb, (depending on the length of the lesson of course) while needing to be flexible according to the focus of the teaching. I invariably fall in love with my students, and they with me...and form and maintain friendships that continue long after classes have finished.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree (Monash University, Melbourne) and Graduate Diploma in teaching English as a first and second language (Victoria University, Melbourne). I have taught for over 20 years, to young and older adults.
