About Georgie
I am a recent graduate and excellent tutor living in London, specialising in History of Art. Teaching is something that I both enjoy immensely and am effective at, as approaching the syllabus in refreshing ways that make it both understandable and enjoyable for students is something that comes naturally to me. In 2017 I graduated with a BA Honours degree in History of Art from Newcastle University, and currently am completing my Masters in Contemporary Art at the Sotheby’s Institute in London. In the past I have worked in many galleries during my studies, including Orleans House Gallery in Twickenham and Vane in Newcastle.
I am friendly, easy going, punctual and reliable, with a strong work ethic that ensures I always turn up for sessions with an exciting and productive lesson plan. I look to offer positive and constructive feedback, and hope to inspire those I teach with my love of art.
Having studied History of Art for the last six years my breadth of knowledge is vast, having covered everything including the Renaissance, the Pre Raphaelites, nineteenth century European painting (Fauvism, Cubism, Expressionism and Futurism), post-war contemporary art since 1945 including the Abstract Expressionists and Pop Artists, to modern and conceptual art and the YBAs and many, many more artists and movements.
Whilst I am happy to teach all age groups, my focus is on A Level and undergraduate students, and younger individuals with a thirst for knowledge in the subject.

I approach sessions in the format of themes, whether we might be discussing a particular artist, movement or specific artwork. One thing I have learnt to be an effective technique is to construct a narrative to make each subject into a story, which makes it much more engaging and easier for the student to learn and memorise.
Often I will spend twenty minutes or so having an active discussion with the student about the ideas I have highlighted, seeing what insights they can produce with or without my guidance. I will then usually set some form of written exercise, often in the structure or a visual analysis or comparison between two artworks to gage how they are able to form a coherent argument or evaluation from the discussion.
We then might tackle some more mark-scheme based exercises in which I teach the student how to construct intelligent answers that will be able to score them maximum points in the exam. A large section of the lesson will focus on essay technique, with space at the end to address any other issues we may have come across or the student might want to explore further.
