About Linda

After retiring in 2018, I moved back to the UK from China. Since then, I have become a tutor in English Language and am keen to share my work experience with students. Most recently, I have lectured on Stage Management and taught Business English at the Oxford & Cambridge Academic programme, based at Cambridge University.

Before retiring, I headed a number of successful corporate events (press conferences, product launches, galas) for clients such as Land Rover, Huawei, and Ford at Imagination Ltd Shanghai. As part of my role, I also coached clients on public speaking and British etiquette in preparation for a variety of occasions.

Prior to joining Imagination Ltd Shanghai, I ran her own production companies with clients such as Louis Vuitton, Harry Winston, Hong Kong Land, Goldman Sachs, Cathay Pacific, and Microsoft.

About the lesson

I attach great importance to the interchange of ideas. Therefore, I think that it is vital to have that sense of fun and camaraderie in a student/tutor partnership. I have coached and tutored a lot through-out my career and have found that people respond better when they are relaxed enough to put forth their ideas freely. Therefore, I structure my sessions around dialogue with asking questions and discussion as a key part of my class.

First of all, we will start with a bit of conversation to warm you up and then will launch into a pop quiz to keep you on your toes and see how much you have remembered from last session. Then it's continuing with either a text reading, grammar drills and explanations or past paper exercises. After that, I tend to do something a bit more lighthearted such as in the past I have got students to perform dramatic speeches from Shakespeare and recent Hollywood movies. Lastly, I end with a little quiz that covers vocab or concepts learned in the session to consolidate our learning. Of course, I do adapt this general structure to each student for their specific needs.

All in all, I am an enthusiastic, patient and determined tutor and I will do my absolute best to make sure that each student achieves their goals.
