About Laura
I have studied Human Biology and Microbiology up to Masters level at university and have over 4 years experience tutoring students in GCSE Science (Triples and Combined) and A Level Biology. I recently completed a fixed term contract as a genetic research technician at the Centre for Life so have hands on experience in a lab and preparing presentations. I wish to prepare to apply for a teaching degree this year to start September 2020/2021 so would love to go back into tutoring full/part time depending on lesson demand.
I have tutored students both in long and short term periods in preparation for exams and currently offer evening and weekend tuition over summer and during the whole academic year. I am currently tutoring two students every Tuesday and Wednesday evenings in preparation for completion of their GCSE's next May and happy to fit in more students who need the help.
Overall I have helped students who are below their target grades, reach their expected grade or above.
I am hardworking and like to make my own revision content suited to the examboard and UK curriculum but deliver this in a friendly, approachable manner.

My teaching method is quite casual with one-to-one sessions and using revision materials which are exam board specific (AQA/Edexcel etc) to create practice questions and lesson plans myself.
Leading up to exams and in the first few session, I set past papers to understand the students knowledge and identify areas of improvement or gaps in knowledge. I use the Mark Scheme to guide their answers and also help develop their exam technique in terms of preparation and key points to remember to boost marks to the top grades.
I can also help with any school homework/coursework the student may be given.
The sessions are friendly and I encourage questions and interaction from the student, hoping to engage their interest in the topics too.
