About Lulu
Hi, I'm Luyanda! I've been a Math tutor for about 4 years now. I am a UCT financial accounting graduate and currently studying towards being a health and wellness coach for accountants/professionals in the corporate world. Although, I still have a passion for numbers and i've always enjoyed helping younger learners overcome and work through their difficulties with mathematics. I had an excellent Math teacher (who helped me receive one of the top math marks in high school and encouraged me to do advance program maths in high school) who would listen well, provide me with help while challenging me to learn and explained and demonstrated things in way that led to understanding. I am to encompass these qualities when I teach and tutor.
My expertise lie in numbers and Number Relationships, Functions and Algebra, Space, Shape and Measurement, Data Handling and Probability. If you are in primary school or really struggling with the above sections i can help you build a strong foundation in those pillars at a pace that is easy to follow. And if you are looking to advance your math skills, i can help you master these concepts to take you to the next level.

When approaching mathematical topics I like to encourage a mindset called Explore-before-explain. This means situating learning in real-life situations and problems and then using those circumstances as a context for learning. So rather than viewing fractions, patterns and equations as a topic to be explained and then practiced, i rather situate learning in problem-solving scenarios and use household items as manipulatives to illustrate ideas and derive mathematical formulas and relationships.
I'm proficient and able to teach in English.
In a typical lesson students can expect a relaxed environment where we can explore challenging maths concept in an easy-to understand manner.
My lessons are aimed at students who are struggling to understand fundamental maths concepts and those who experience Maths anxiety. With this is mind I typically work with students between grade 6 -10. As this is where a lot of fundamental maths work is covered.
