About Faustina

Hello everyone, I am Faustina and I've been fascinated by living systems since I learned that everything from a tiny bacterium to a blue whale follows the same fundamental rules. I have a background in microbiology which means I've spent time seeing the practical application of the concepts we'll cover, whether that's in medicine, agriculture, or conservation. I'm here to show you that biology isn't just theory, it's the science that affects your life every single day. I want to teach you biology because it is the foundation of your future choices. Whether you plan to be an engineer, an artist, a business major, or a doctor, you will constantly encounter topics related to health, nutrition, climate change, and ethics. This course is designed to give you the literacy to understand those issues and the analytical skills to make informed decisions. I want to move beyond rote memorization and focus on problem solving analyzing data, designing experiments, and clearly communicating scientific ideas. Ultimately, I want to teach you not to know biology, but to think like a Biologist. My class is a place of hard work and asking difficult questions. Let's get started."

My approach is to move away from just memorization and focus on deep, conceptual understanding. I treat every subject like a pyramid; if the foundational knowledge is weak, everything built on top of it will eventually crumble. In our sessions, we start by meticulously reviewing the core concepts you missed or didn't fully grasp in class. We then use spaced repetition and active recall techniques, making sure you can explain the 'why' behind the steps, not just the 'how.' I focus on building transferable skills, so you'll know how to approach any new problem, even if it's one we haven't practiced.
