About Philippa
Hello, I'm Philippa!
I'm a native British English speaker with a passion for helping people communicate confidently in English. I have several years of experience working with learners from different backgrounds and age groups, and I genuinely enjoy getting to know my students and supporting them on their language-learning journey.
Before becoming an online English teacher, I worked in customer-facing and management roles where clear communication, patience and understanding were essential every day. These experiences taught me how to connect with people, listen carefully to their needs, and help them achieve their goals—skills that I now bring to every lesson.
I hold a Sociology degree from Durham University, one of the UK's leading universities. My studies developed my understanding of how people, cultures and societies interact, while strengthening my research, critical thinking and communication skills. Through analysing complex social issues, evaluating evidence and presenting well-reasoned arguments, I gained a strong foundation in clear and effective communication. This background helps me adapt to different learners, understand diverse perspectives and create lessons that are engaging, thoughtful and relevant to students from a wide range of backgrounds.
I decided to teach English because I love seeing students grow in confidence and realise that they can communicate more effectively than they thought possible. Whether it's a child speaking in English for the first time, a student passing an important exam, or an adult feeling confident in a conversation at work, I find it incredibly rewarding to be part of that progress.
My lessons are friendly, supportive and tailored to your individual needs. I believe learning should be enjoyable, practical and encouraging, and I aim to create a relaxed environment where you feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and improving at your own pace.
