I know Meredith because she was my directing teacher whilst I was getting my degree in Education. I worked with her everyday in her classroom observing her and getting to know her teaching styles and then slowly taking over the classroom. She is an incredible teacher and things she has taught me, I have used in my career to this day, 10 years on. She is positive and personable and she builds incredible relationships with all of her students. They all respect her and want to work hard for her because she gives them respect and positive encouragement. She sets firm boundaries and holds them accountable while also being understanding about what barriers they may have to learning. I remember sitting with her and going over my lesson observations and all of the feedback she would give me was always constructive and delivered in a really helpful and positive way. The class we worked in was an ESOL 5th grade class which came with its own unique challenges, as these are students who have come from all over the world, from El Salvador to Russia. Meredith always made sure to take an interest and celebrate in their heritage and language and encouraged them to make mistakes because learning a new language as well as new curriculum content is incredibly difficult for anyone, let alone 5th graders. She was incredibly knowledgeable and these kids left her grade with significant improvements, not only in their grades but also in the way they treated each other and interacted with the world around them. I could not have asked for a better teacher to jumpstart my career. I learned how to teach because of her but not only that, I learned how to empathise with students, joke around with them and build individual relationships. Most importantly she taught me how to use all of that to inform my teaching to help make these kids the best versions of themselves. She would make an excellent superprof and any student would love working with her.
