About Eric

I have a master's degree in literary studies from the University of Texas at Dallas with an emphasis in poetry and philosophy. I have been teaching since 2015. I taught high school for three years in Garland, focusing on dual credit and AP English, but I have also done on-level English 1-4. I have taught developmental English and have my certification for English as a second language as well. While teaching high school I did receive a teacher of the year award from the Young DFW Writers Association, and I sponsored the Louder than a Bomb poetry club. We won first place and several students were published. I also ran the DND club and the LGBTQ club. I am a gamer (PC and PS5, as well as DND), I own a cat, and in general, I'm awesome.

About the lesson

I teach how to think before I teach how to write. Knowing the roots of words can completely change the way you write an essay, your knowledge of spelling will improve, and comprehension of various languages also can improve. I teach how to properly use grammar and syntax, how to analyze a text, and how to create a proper line of reasoning that improves your overall writing ability. While I am good with technology, I prefer to write and teach on-the-fly to make sure my lessons are personalized to the student. These lessons are geared for a higher level of education, but I also taught high school for several years and don't mind adapting my lessons to fit younger students.

I am a college professor, so I do ask for a higher rate than some. Online classes and in-person classes are both $20 an hour. I give one lesson for free. Please note that I do work at a college in the evenings, so if you require evening classes, please let me know so I can find a way to fit your schedule around mine.
