About Rupert

MY FOCUS For nearly five years, I’ve provided almost 400 students, aged three through 28, with many thousands of hours of professional tuition, home schooling, academic and life skill mentoring, as well as educational therapy. If I have one specialism, more important than the rest, it is that of making myself the foremost expert in each of my individual students, their knowledge, skills and approaches, their needs, their fears and their hopes. Working with, for example, five-year-old 'Alice' requires experience of five-year-olds. Nevertheless, Alice is not 'a' five-year-old; Alice, is Alice. I love to acquire and maintain my own detailed subject knowledge and curiosity, and even deeper subject understanding; however, it is the student who needs to be the mathematician, or the communicator or the examinee. My focus is on their attainment, their knowledge, their pride and their joy. MY CPD I constantly acquire and maintain academic subject and curriculum knowledge and understanding, by reading, taking tuition and short courses as well as formal postgraduate studies: I am half-way through an MSc in Neurodevelopmental SEN. I am also a professional member of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council. MY TEACHING It is not often the case that a student simply hasn't been offered what he or she needs to know. In many such cases you might not need a teacher: a textbook, or a video or some kind of lecture may do just as well. And there is nothing wrong with such options! What I do, however, is TEACH: assess and empathise, plan, inspire-&-enable learning, re-assess, adapt, repeat. EDUCATIONAL THERAPY AND MENTORING - I am also an established educational therapist for nearly all SEN: ADHD, Anxiety, Autism, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Expressive and receptive language and reading challenges, and more. As an educational therapist, I assess for special opportunities, not special needs, teaching toward futures that are exciting, not needful. - In particular, I stand out as a tutor and ed therapist with professional expertise in ADHD. - Personalised psychoeducation and healthy living habits - MENTORING: As an academic and life skill mentor, I identify and foster those scholastic and general skills not specific to particular academic subjects, but required for flourishing within educational settings generally: inter-personal and interview skills; organisational skills; essay-, exam- and revision-skills; self-belief, volition and activation; attention and interference; advanced or remedial reading or handwriting skills; and so on; IN CONCLUSION Whether reaching for confidence, skills, knowledge or personal development, all tutees require support that is entirely personalised and ceaselessly adaptive to their evolving learning. ------------------------------------------------------------- • 2016 to present: professional tutoring, home schooling and educational therapy––private practice and London ADHD Centre; • Born 1971; • CPD: Part-time MSc student in special educational needs; Exam board training: A-Level History exam & coursework / iGCSE History teaching & marking; NEU/ATL courses: Memory & Attainment; Coaching & Mentoring; Adolescent Health; • 1991–94 University College, Durham, BA, Archaeology; • 2015–16 Keele University, PGCE, intensive teacher-training in primary education, experience of six schools over four terms. • 1985–90 Rugby School; • European Mentoring and Coaching Council; • Current DBS Enhanced Certificate.
