About Patricia
Hi! Nice to meet you! My name is Patricia and I am an experienced English language educator with a passion for language as both a learner and a teacher. I am bilingual in Spanish and English, and one day would love to reach polyglot status. My passion for learning languages has expanded into a passion for teaching them as I strive to help my students reach their language learning goals.
I have a Bachelor's degree in English language and literature and have also recently returned from teaching English abroad for two years in the Spanish-speaking country of Ecuador. I have received training in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and have extensive experience putting my teaching skills into practice.
I use my experience as a learner to meet my students where they are and then challenge them to push forward and beyond! Mistakes are encouraged as it promotes progress and learning. All I require from my students is the motivation to do their best!

Language learning is a long journey, but it doesn't have to be boring! My lessons benefit beginner, intermediate, and advanced English Language Learners through conversational practice and real-life application.
A typical lesson begins with a short conversation to introduce yourself and practice conversational fluency (e.g. "Hi, how have you been?" or "Tell me about your day," etc.). Then the lesson will transition to instruction focused on specific themes such as grammatical tenses and their purpose, colloquialisms and idioms, or real-life scenarios like asking for directions or ordering at a restaurant).
As lessons get more advanced the class structure will become more free-form conversation based where a reading will be assigned followed by a discussion about the content.
In my experience in both learning and teaching languages, consistent practice (and making mistakes) are the key to progress.
