About Saratu
Hello! I'm Saratu, a passionate and supportive English tutor with a Master's degree in English Teaching and Applied Linguistics from Coventry University and a Bachelor's degree in English and Literary Studies.
I currently work as a Further Education English Specialist, teaching GCSE English Language and Functional Skills English to learners aged 16–19. I also have experience teaching English to adults, multilingual learners and professionals who want to improve their communication skills for everyday life, education and employment.
I understand that English can sometimes feel challenging, especially if you've struggled with exams, lack confidence in writing or feel nervous speaking the language. My goal is to help you overcome these challenges in a friendly, encouraging environment where you feel comfortable asking questions and learning at your own pace.
My lessons are tailored to your individual needs, whether you're preparing for GCSE English, working towards a Functional Skills qualification, developing your spoken English or improving your grammar, vocabulary and writing skills.
I believe that learning English should be engaging, practical and rewarding. I use clear explanations, interactive activities, real-life examples and constructive feedback to help you understand difficult concepts and recognise your progress.

I offer friendly, engaging and personalised English lessons for GCSE English Language, Functional Skills English, ESOL and EFL learners. Whether you're preparing for an examination, returning to education or developing your English for everyday communication, work or study, I'll help you build your skills and confidence at a pace that suits you.
What can you expect from my lessons?
Every learner is different, so I begin by understanding your current ability, learning goals and areas where you need support. Together, we'll identify your priorities and develop a clear plan to help you progress.
GCSE English Language:We'll focus on AQA Paper 1 and Paper 2, including reading comprehension, language analysis, creative and persuasive writing, examination techniques and past-paper practice. I'll break down challenging questions, demonstrate model answers and help you structure stronger responses.
Functional Skills English:I'll support you with Level 1 reading, writing, speaking and listening, using practical activities, past papers and examination-style tasks to develop the skills and confidence needed for assessment.
ESOL and EFL:Our lessons can focus on conversational English, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing and communication for work or everyday life. We'll use realistic situations, discussions and interactive activities to help you communicate more naturally and confidently.
My teaching approach
I believe learning works best when you feel comfortable, supported and actively involved. My lessons combine clear explanations, guided practice, interactive tasks and constructive feedback. You'll have opportunities to ask questions, practise new skills and learn from mistakes without feeling judged.
I'll also help you recognise your progress, celebrate improvements and identify what to work on next.
My goal is simple: to help you understand English better, feel more confident using it and develop the skills you need to succeed.
Whether you're aiming for a better GCSE grade, a Functional Skills qualification or greater fluency in English, I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

Details
My standard rate is £25 per hour for one-to-one online English lessons, including GCSE English Language, Functional Skills, ESOL and EFL.
This fee includes personalised lesson planning, tailored learning materials, exam-style practice where appropriate, and constructive feedback to support your progress. There are no additional charges for digital learning resources provided during lessons.
For learners who would benefit from regular support, discounted online lesson packages are available:
- 5 lessons (5 hours): £120
- 10 lessons (10 hours): £230
In-person tutoring is available at £35 per hour, subject to location and availability. Any additional travel costs for longer distances will be discussed and agreed upon in advance.
My aim is to provide high-quality, supportive and affordable English tuition. Whether you need examination preparation, regular academic support or help improving your English communication skills, I would be happy to discuss your learning goals and find a suitable arrangement.
