About Janice

I have spent over 15 years doing one thing: helping people find their voice in English. Whether you're an actor polishing an audition, an executive preparing for a board presentation, or someone who just wants to stop second-guessing every sentence — I meet you exactly where you are. I hold a Master's from CSUN, have taught at Berlitz, The Beverly Hills Lingual Institute, and Living Educational Encounters, and I also speak Spanish.

About the lesson

Learning English is your gateway to success!

I tutor English as a Second Language to students worldwide as well as locally in the Los Angeles area. I also work with employees at hotels, restaurants, senior living residences, and other workplaces.

My teaching includes accent reduction, conversation practice, grammar, writing, and how to confidently engage in “small talk.” I place a strong emphasis on accent reduction to help students improve clarity, pronunciation, and overall spoken fluency.

My students come from Eastern and Western Europe, Asia, Mexico, and Central and South America.

In addition to foundational ESL, I teach American idioms, business English, email writing (formal and informal), office etiquette, cultural differences between the U.S. and other countries, reading comprehension, and writing skills.

For advanced students, we engage in in-depth conversations about world events, philosophy, politics, and other topics of personal interest to build fluency, confidence, and critical thinking in English.

Aurelian is the kind of student every teacher longs to have. He is extremely motivated and focused.

He came to me wanting assistance with Accent Reduction. I usually tell my adult students that they can improve, but will never totally lose their accent. But I feel it is different with Aurelian.

He already has quite a good command of English pronunciation so now, we are simply fine-tuning. The biggest challenge for Aurelian will be to learn how different American English intonation is from his native French. Another challenge will be learning proper syllable stress, and phrase groupings.

I am confident, however, that he will show significant improvement in the coming months.

Besides all of the above, Aurelian is a thoroughly nice person with an engaging personality. I look forward to helping him achieve his goals!
