About Adam
Hello, I'm Adam, an experienced Maths, English and ESOL tutor with over 16 years of teaching experience.
Teaching has been a major part of my life for many years because I genuinely enjoy helping people develop their skills, gain confidence and achieve goals they may have once thought were out of reach. One of the most rewarding parts of my job is seeing a learner who initially lacks confidence begin to believe in their own abilities and succeed.
Throughout my career, I have worked with a wide range of learners, including adults returning to education, apprentices, ESOL students, job seekers and learners preparing for Functional Skills qualifications. I understand that everyone learns differently, which is why I adapt my teaching style to suit each individual student.
I am passionate about making Maths and English accessible, practical and relevant to everyday life. Many learners come to me feeling nervous about these subjects, particularly if they have had negative experiences at school. My aim is to create a supportive and relaxed learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making progress at their own pace.
As well as being a native English speaker, I also speak Portuguese fluently and hold a Level 3 TEFL qualification. Having lived and worked abroad, I understand the challenges of learning and using another language, which helps me support ESOL learners effectively.
Whether you are preparing for a Functional Skills exam, improving your English for work, building your Maths confidence, or working towards a personal goal, I look forward to helping you succeed.

I am an experienced Maths, English and ESOL tutor with over 16 years of teaching experience supporting learners of all ages and backgrounds. My specialism is helping students build confidence and achieve their goals in Functional Skills Maths and English, whether they are studying for work, an apprenticeship, further education or personal development.
My teaching approach is learner-centred, supportive and practical. I believe that every student can succeed when lessons are tailored to their individual needs and learning style. I break complex topics down into manageable steps, use real-life examples, and provide plenty of opportunities for guided practice. I focus not only on passing exams but also on developing the skills and confidence needed to use Maths and English effectively in everyday life.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, although longer sessions can be arranged if required. Each lesson is carefully planned around the learner's current level, strengths, areas for improvement and specific goals.
I have extensive experience teaching Functional Skills Maths and English from Entry Level to Level 2, as well as supporting ESOL learners to improve their English language skills. I also hold a Level 3 TEFL qualification and speak Portuguese fluently, which can be particularly helpful for Portuguese-speaking learners studying English.
My lessons are suitable for:
