About Roma

I hold a PhD in Chemistry as well as a First in Undergraduate Chemistry. I am familiar with the full range of topics at GCSE and A'level.. I lectured in several universities and won awards for my skill in delivering innovative teaching techniques and communication skills. I now have 20 years experience as a lecturer and a private tutor and have a wealth of teaching aids as well as the skills needed to use different approaches with different students. I quickly understand the problems that different students present with. Some recent results include a student who was awarded a 'U' in his mock exam but gained a 'B' in his final result, another went from a 'D' to an 'A', another went from 'C ' to 'A'. I have always been able to improve the grade that a student finally attains.

About the lesson

I tailor my lessons to each individual’s needs. Exam technique and helpful revision tips form an integral part of lessons. I have a multitude of notes and revision aids, some designed to be used on computer/tablet/phone. I also make use of molecular building sets to help a student to make sense of the (sometimes) complex diagrams they see in their books. I have crystal structure models that, again, make sense of confusing diagrams. Few schools or other tutors have the variety of aids that I have. This all combines to enable a student to gain a true understanding of a topic.

Most students come to me well before their exam, giving time to delve into the subject in a way an enables a student to make sense of it. However, sometimes parents only find a tutor when the exam date is looming. In one case in February 2020 I was contacted by parents just 10 days prior to the exam! I explained that this did not give me much time to make a difference but we decided to go ahead. The student was a clever girl but she had simply not been able to make sense of the chemistry section of her double award GCSE Science. We managed to fit in 8 hours of tuition and I was delighted to receive a text from her recently that she had achieved an A! So it's never too late to try to turn things around.
