About Adriant
As a still current California credentialed mathematics educator, and former Colorado math credential teacher with a combined more than twenty years of secondary teaching experience, I have taught students across Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Trigonometry, Mathematical Analysis, and Pre-Calculus in comprehensive, charter, alternative, and intervention settings, also including teaching online, hybrid and face to face since 2002. Throughout my career, I have worked with diverse student populations, including English learners, students with IEPs, and students requiring additional academic and behavioral support, while maintaining high expectations and building positive classroom relationships.
Beyond classroom instruction, I have served in leadership roles including Mathematics Department Chair, District Mathematics Specialist, Instructional Coach, and other related leadership roles in education. My unique experience begins with understanding the student as a learner, providing differentiation of instruction as needed, while aiming to achieve high proficiency of the Math objective, or standard. Mathematics is relevant to all things and events. Let’s find what is difficult, to discover that you are actually more capable.
Approach. My four R’s for aligning the Math curriculum and practice are the following.
1. Reading & Comprehension. Reading Math from Left to Right is where it begins, this brings understanding and effective practices of paying attention to detail. Strategies to apply as needed, are:
Paraphrasing instructions/responses/results as full sentences,
Annotating, Discerning, Asking Questions of Depth Of Knowledge; this is the first step into taking a problem, and making it an Analytical Task.
2. Relevancy. Math is more than a problem about “Johnny going to the store and purchasing a product.”
Math is relevant to your everyday life, and to many others. This is why it is important, and remains important. You will be shown how to create insightful questions to explore the situation, measure or use the proper tools and methods for such situation. And the most important piece is to experience this relevancy; to talk about it and engaged about it.
3. Results. Applying theories, answering real related questions: "Did it work?", "Am I correct?"
"How come?"
This approach sets up the highest visible learning habit of mind to impact your learning. Will make you a self evaluator; knowing when you are correct, and if so to what degree. Depending the math level, words such as ‘approximately’ become relevant.
Once you can explain the process, or identify the right method to the approach, means you are learning and exceeding.
4. Range. You will practice, know and understand more than one way of solving, connecting, configuring, checking, demonstrating, reviewing, or approaching a task, situation, or problem. At the end what is important is that you know how to deduct the right answer.
There are multiple ways and methods to solve. It is best to know about them, instead of being constrained to one way.
Overall, my approach aims to take math outside of the ‘4 walls of the classroom’, and into the real environment, where it is actually used in daily life, and in many professions. Now more needed than ever, due to the emergence of AI, where my current research delves into within data analytics.

My students have gone on to become lawyers, engineers, entrepreneurs, and more importantly college graduates with a strong math foundation. Whether you are a creative, or an analytic thinker Mathematics is and can be more relevant to you. My process involves using the strongest teaching strategies from research, while simplifying complexity and scaffolding as needed, yet not ignoring the rigor and importance of Mathematical modules or algorithms. With Artificial Intelligence at its growing core to the future, reading and comprehension of problem solving has become more relevant than ever. Let me assist you.
