Lessons will be completely be tailored around you, your interests and how I can best help you excel. History isn't for everyone, but it isn't just a load of old boring blokes I promise you! There is intrigue and deception and brilliance, and often a bit of nasty bits.

Naturally, you'll also want to be looking for the technical side of your course. I am well versed in technique, comparison and structure for how to best answer a history question. Deeper than that however, I hope to further your understanding of why you are doing all of these methods. Think about it! Why are you putting two scenarios next to each other? Why is there a constant analysis of success in history? I hope to broaden your critical thinking and reasoning throughout your course with me.

I am up to the task of teaching any time, place or period whether 2000 years ago or just last week. I am also sure I can make History digestible, accessible and exciting for you while making sure you learn the things you need to. Through interactive sessions, taught with a manner of multimedia designed to create a safe little environment for you to engage with the learning yourself. Come to me with anything you feel you struggled with, or ask me to give you something completely new and I'm more than happy to oblige.

I don't have a favourite bit of history necessarily, but twist my arm and I love talking about women's stories through time!

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

As many students can tell you, living ain't cheap! I always have had a bit of a knack for teaching and getting people onside with learning and so when the opportunity came up to have flexible and consistent hours teaching the subjects I really love it was kind of a no brainer.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach a range from English to History to Politics. My favourite topics change all the time really but at the moment I'm on a bit of a roll reading about women throughout history, displacing the "male normal" understanding of subjects with one that puts primacy on women as the main evolutionary and societal piece. I love a spreadsheet too, so another favourite of mine is getting into the nitty gritty of institutions, society and economics and why they're important to learn. Previous tutees can tell you not to get me started on taxation clauses...
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

My English teacher was probably my educational role model. I had him from Year 8 all the way to A-Level and, honestly, I don't think I would be half the man I am today if he hadn't installed an innate fascination with reading... and fun ties.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Friendliness! Maybe a bit of patience. Honestly, tutoring is oftentimes less about teaching, and more about working out stuff together, answering questions which would otherwise go unasked. There's no judgement and there's no stupid questions. Also at the end of the day, it's a service so meant to be a little fun.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I was kicked out of Early GCSE Drama in Year 8 because I cried due to my team not listening to my admittedly terrible play idea. In other words, I was too dramatic for Early Drama GCSE. I think that is valuable to understanding me. Say what you want, but given time, Three animals and a Labrador would've been the next Waiting for Godot but I was snubbed.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

    Spelling feminism, there's too many 'n's, 'i's and 'm's.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I'm passionate about a lot of things: equality and fairness, women's rights, democratic ideas. On a less serious note: I love board games, rugby, the outdoors and chocolate. Chocolate especially.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

    I'm hilarious.
