About Tom
I study Theoretical Physics currently, with my specialist interest being in quantum mechanics and general relativity. I studied Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics at A-Level; currently achieving a first class degree with an 80% average
Outside of academics, I enjoy playing snooker or general competitive games like chess and poker. My friend and I often play pub quizzes locally and go down to the driving range sometimes.
Following university, I am pursuing a career in quant trading or trading in general; interested mainly in commodities. I have published research reports on oil market dynamics and completed trading projects regarding market making.

I am an experienced Maths and Physics tutor who aims to help students develop both strong fundamental knowledge and the confidence to tackle unfamiliar problems independently. My lessons are highly interactive, with an emphasis on understanding *why* a method works rather than simply memorising the steps needed to reach an answer.
I believe that the strongest students are those who can apply their knowledge when a question is presented in a way they have not seen before. For this reason, I place a strong emphasis on critical problem-solving throughout my lessons. Once we have established the underlying theory, I encourage students to work through increasingly challenging problems, discussing their reasoning with me as we go. This allows me to identify gaps in understanding while helping students develop a more structured and confident approach to difficult questions.
My teaching is always adapted to the individual student. Whether we are rebuilding foundations in a topic they have struggled with or pushing towards the most demanding questions on an exam paper, I aim to create lessons that are engaging, challenging and productive. I also draw on my own experience studying Physics with Theoretical Physics at university, where mathematical reasoning and problem-solving are central to my degree.
Ultimately, my goal is not only to improve a student's grades, but to leave them with a deeper understanding of the subject and the problem-solving skills to approach new questions confidently on their own.

I have a year and a half of experience on MyTutor, accumulating 20+ 5 star reviews on my profile. Feel free to check my account out over on that website. My rate on that website is also £25, but parents pay £40 per lesson for my time.
I feel this price is fair for the value and standard of tutoring that I can offer and this will be reflected in the results and improvement you will see. I will not raise my rates for at least the first year you are with me.
