About Olivia

I am a teacher and tutor living in Manchester offering lessons online or in person. I love living here for the access to the hills as I'm a keen climber, hiker and outdoor swimmer. My love of climbing started at St Andrews University. I graduated in Latin and English, before teaching English to a high professional standard in Spain and London for a number of years. I completed a PGCE in Latin with Classics before teaching for several years in secondary. I took a break from full-time teaching to further my subject knowledge with a Master's at the University of Manchester. During my Master's I spent two months in Rome where I developed a keen interest in Roman temple buildings and their use. My next project is building a website for teachers and students of Classics, so that I can share some of my interests and teaching materials.

About the lesson

Lessons are usually an hour long and tailored to the individual, focusing on areas for improvement and helping them maintain progress where they excel. Constant review is key so I start with a quiz or a game and then present material in a clear and engaging way with plenty of participation. Material is then consolidated with exercises and activities in a variety of styles for better acquisition.

I have six years' experience in teaching Latin, Classical Civilisation and Ancient Greek in schools and online. My teaching has included writing course materials for Key Stage 3 and above, and helping A-Level students achieve grades for top universities. I have supported students from a range of backgrounds and academic skill-set, finding their potential whatever the starting point.

I started as a teacher of English as a Second Language which gave me extensive knowledge and practice in methods for teaching and learning. I provide tools students can apply to all subjects for lifelong learning, as well as developing a love for the ancient world.
