About Elliot

I am a professional performing artist and composer. I have an Honour's Degree in popular music from the University of the Highlands and Islands, 13 years of music practice, 3 years of music production practice & 9 years of professional performance and writing experience under my belt. At the age of 11 my Dad handed me down his old Les Paul so that I could learn the guitar and from that moment on, I was hooked. In the following years I would tell anyone that would listen, "I don't care what I do with my life, as long as I'm involved in music."

Throughout High School I researched the grades and entry requirements I needed to begin studying music at University level. I focused my learning towards achieving this goal and in 2013 I was accepted into a HNC course in Music Performance at North East Scotland College (formally Aberdeen College.) After I graduated from North East Scotland College I enrolled in my Bachelor's Degree at the University of the Highlands & Islands in Perth. Each step of my educational career has proved challenging in different ways. I have had to develop as an instrumentalist, focusing on techniques and styles as well as broadening my horizons into music production and business studies in order to meet the standards set at each stage. I am always open to improving myself and never turn down an opportunity to try new things. A lot of my peers have told me that studying music has left them feeling disenchanted with music and that something they once loved has become a chore. For me, nothing could be further from the truth. Studying music has only made me gain new appreciation for the art form and helped me connect with it even further. At the end of a long day working in a musical environment, I still love nothing more than unwinding by playing drums or putting on a good record.

Since graduating from university I have remained musically active, performing, composing and networking as often as I can. I am currently studying for my Master's Degree at Edinburgh Napier, continuing to work on my portfolio and making the most of all of the opportunities I can find. I am always performing at gigs as a solo Hip-Hop artist, composing for screen and often find myself utilizing my abilities as a multi-instrumentalist to work session with bands all over the country in a myriad of styles. Always moving forward. Always focused on improving. Always involved in music.

About the lesson

I have had some very negative experiences with being taught music over the years; my methodology has always been and will continue to be, helping my students get what THEY want out of learning music. I want to try and keep music enjoyable while also pushing students to reach the bar for whatever they hope to achieve from music learning.
