About Gary
I began piano lessons at the age of 5 and continued my studies throughout school and university. I perform regularly in my own 5 piece band as well as a jazz ensemble and also direct musicals, performing in theatres and the Clyde Auditorium annually. I feel music is very rewarding, and playing is good for your well being.

I am experienced and specialize in teaching piano, keyboard, music theory and composition. Lessons can either be in person or online, using Zoom or Skype. I have been teaching piano and music theory for 24 years now. Roughly half my students study for the ABRSM piano grades, and so far my pupils have a 100% pass rate. My other students play for enjoyment, learning various styles and technique. I feel it important to learn good technique regardless of the styles of music being taught, which I impart through the use of finger exercises, scales, arpeggios, chords and an understanding of varying keys. I teach classical piano, jazz, pop, blues, rock, composition, improvisation and music theory. I tailor all lessons to suit the individual needs and aspirations of the student, employing various teaching styles. I also teach some pupils to play by ear, as well as improvisational skills, if requested. I teach pupils from total beginners through to graduate level. I also prepare students for the school curriculum, Nat 4/5, higher music and advanced higher music level. I was initially taught by the renowned concert pianist, and head of piano at the RSAMD, Jack Wight Henderson. I then completed my studies under Ms Anna Rastopchina. I graduated with an Hnc in Electronic Music and Recording at Clydebank College, Hnd in Modern Musicianship from Jewel and Esk Valley College, and a Ba Hons in Applied Music from Strathclyde University.
