About Eric

I am originally from Canada, and moved to the UK 5 years ago. I love living in London and intend to stay for much longer! I love teaching all the subjects, and relish the opportunity to lead my students to discover more about the world around them. I try to get involved with my school as much as I can: I also run our 11+ club and a debating club, and organise the year-end school production. In my free time, I enjoy playing board games, reading and relaxing with friends.

About the lesson

I have been teaching 11+ preparation at my school for 5 years now. As a Year 6 teacher, I help fine-tune students' skills in the lead-up to their exams. This involves addressing gaps as well as challenging strengths as they appear on a day-to-day basis. I utilise the leading cognitive research to deepen tasks and structure revision to enhance students' memory and performance on their tests. Teaching 11+ for this long has also given me intimate knowledge of the application process as well as the tests themselves, so I would gladly help your secondary school search if that was needed. Every good teacher needs to know their student, so building a relationship first and assessing their current level is the first and most important step for me. Once I have a good understanding of where they're at, I like to use a mixture of skills-based practice as well as open-ended tasks to help consolidate their knowledge and deepen their conceptual understanding of the material. A typical lesson would take an hour to accommodate both the skills practice as well as the problem-solving, and would also involve both writing and giving feedback on actual 11+ tests. Anyone looking for success in 11+ exams will benefit.
