About MELISSA
As a dedicated Mathematics major with 18 years of experience as a public school educator, I have devoted my career to helping students discover that math is a skill anyone can master. Throughout my teaching journey—from guiding 6th graders through foundational concepts to mentoring Junior High School students in Math 9 and Math 10—I have worked with learners of all background levels and abilities.
I pride myself on patience, clear communication, and adaptability. Having taught in public education for nearly two decades, I understand the exact challenges students face within the curriculum and know how to break down intimidating topics into manageable, logical steps. My goal as a tutor is not just to help students pass their exams, but to eliminate math anxiety, build lasting confidence, and foster strong problem-solving skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

Math shouldn't be a spectator sport! With a Mathematics degree and 18 years of experience in public education, I specialize in helping 6th graders build a solid foundation, while also providing targeted tutoring for Junior High students mastering Math 9 and 10.
My teaching method moves away from static, traditional lectures. I believe in making math tangible, often incorporating kinesthetic learning and station-based activities. Whether we are using task cards to navigate algebraic equations or hands-on problem-solving to visualize the area of complex figures, my goal is to keep students actively engaged.
A typical lesson begins with a brief, confidence-building review of previous topics. We then transition into an interactive introduction of the new concept, followed by guided practice where we tackle problems as a team. We always conclude with independent application to ensure true mastery.
