About Amritha

Hello! I’m Amritha, a dedicated tutor and biology major at UNC Charlotte with nearly four years of experience supporting students through both in-person and virtual learning. Having been a peer mentor and team leader, as well as a tutor for Varsity Tutors and NCVPS, I bring a deep understanding of academic challenges and effective study strategies. I was virtual for most of high school during the pandemic, so I truly understand the unique struggles of remote learning and the need to adapt quickly. I am passionate about helping students build confidence and achieve their goals by tailoring each session to their individual learning style. My approach is patient, supportive, and focused on making complex concepts accessible and engaging. Whether you need help with high school biology, including AP Biology and AP Environmental Science, or middle school math, science, and English, I am here to guide you every step of the way. Outside of academics, I’m actively involved in several clubs and have experience with leadership roles, so if you have any questions about college clubs or leadership, feel free to ask! I also love watching shows and movies, reading books, crocheting, trying new recipes, and traveling. I recently studied abroad in Prague, so I’m happy to chat about that experience if you are interested! I believe building a connection beyond tutoring helps create a comfortable and motivating learning environment.

About the lesson

As a tutor with nearly four years of experience including work with Varsity Tutors, NCVPS, and as a peer mentor at UNCC, I provide personalized, student-centered support that meets learners where they are. I am currently pursuing a B.S. in Biology at UNC Charlotte, and I specialize in high school biology, including AP Biology and AP Environmental Science, as well as middle school math, science, and English. My teaching style focuses on building understanding and confidence through active engagement. I break down challenging concepts using relatable examples and always adjust my methods based on the student’s learning style whether that is visual, verbal, hands-on, or step-by-step instruction. I emphasize consistency, clarity, and encouragement so students feel empowered in their learning. I offer lots of supplemental resources, but I ask that students provide me with the materials they want to work on during our sessions. If that is not possible, I ask them to specify the topics or areas they want to focus on beforehand. For review sessions, I prepare a plan that may include interactive tools like Quizlet or Kahoot to make studying engaging and effective. Every session starts with a quick check-in to set goals for the day. I then review recent lessons or assignments, explain key concepts in a simplified, approachable way, work through practice problems or reading sections together, pause regularly for questions and reflection, and end with a summary, review, and helpful tips for independent study. With extensive experience in virtual tutoring and team leadership, I know how to keep online learning engaging and supportive. I was virtual for most of high school due to the pandemic, so I understand firsthand what it’s like to struggle with remote learning and having to teach yourself. Because of this, I have tried many different strategies and tools to help students succeed, which means I have lots of methods and resources we can work through together until we find what works best for you. My background with NCVPS students also means I understand how to help learners navigate online platforms, manage deadlines, and stay motivated. I create a positive, encouraging environment where students feel safe asking questions and trying new strategies. My lessons are ideal for high school students taking biology or earth science including AP Biology or AP Environmental Science, middle school students needing help in math, science, or English, NCVPS and online learners who need guidance with virtual learning tools and structure, and students looking to improve study skills, note-taking, and academic organization. Whether you are working to catch up or get ahead, I will help you develop the tools and confidence to succeed.
