About Petra Viola

I am a Senior Software Engineer with a passion for mentoring and breaking down complex technical concepts into clear, manageable steps. Throughout my career in the tech industry, I have designed, built, and maintained robust production systems using Python and Java. Beyond writing code, a significant part of my professional role involves mentoring junior developers, onboarding team members, and conducting code reviews, which has naturally shaped my patient and structured approach to teaching.

I understand firsthand the gap between theoretical computer science and practical, real-world development. My goal as a tutor is to bridge that gap, helping secondary school students excel in their exams while equipping university students and adult learners with the exact problem-solving mindset and clean-coding habits that top-tier tech companies look for. About the lesson

As a Senior Software Engineer with years of industry experience, I bring real-world programming practices directly to my lessons. I teach students of all levels, including secondary school pupils preparing for the Leaving Cert and university students tackling assignments.

My teaching methodology is entirely hands-on and practical—coding is learned by doing, not by reading slides. A typical lesson lasts 60 to 90 minutes and is structured around clear, tangible goals:

First 15 minutes: Reviewing core concepts, debugging previous code, and answering logic questions.

Main session: Live, interactive coding where we build real-world applications or solve curriculum-specific problems together.

Wrap-up: Code review, best-practice optimization, and setting up a light mini-project for independent practice.

Whether we are mastering Python fundamentals, deep-diving into object-oriented programming with Java, or tackling system design, I adapt my pace to match your specific goals. You won't just learn syntax; you will learn how to think, problem-solve, and architect code like a professional engineer.
