About Emmi

A Bit About Me

I picked up the violin at six in Finland, and from there I never really stopped making music. Singing came next, then a growing interest in how it all gets taught. I studied vocal pedagogy in Germany before moving to London on a grant from the Finnish Cultural Foundation to complete my MA in Contemporary Music Performance, which I finished with distinction in 2021. Teaching and my own music have always sat side by side for me, and I've been lucky to do both.

Outside the classroom, I write, produce, and release music as Emmi Maaria, pulling from classical, folk, and pop. My songs have been picked up by BBC 6 Music, Boogaloo Radio, and Radio Helsinki. I also compose for film, produce for an 80s-inspired synth-pop duo, and show up here and there as a violist or singer in live projects. Right now I'm working on a concept album called Daughters

About the lesson

"What I value most as a teacher is seeing students take ownership of their learning—and grow in confidence as singers and musicians."

Hello! I'm Emmi. New to this platform, but teaching in London since 2020. While my profile here is fresh, my practice is well-established—and many of my students have worked with me for years.

I believe vocal progress thrives on consistency and trust. That means I focus on building long-term partnerships with my students rather than filling spots quickly. It takes time to develop real skill, and I'm here for that journey with you.

Alongside teaching, I study Music Therapy at Guildhall School of Music & Drama, which has deepened my understanding of the voice in relation to listening, trust, and communication.

If you're interested in recording, production, or composing, I offer support in those areas too, including simple recording sessions, arrangements and production. If you're a nervous singer or find self-expression challenging—vocally or otherwise—I'd be glad to help create a space where you feel comfortable trying things out at your own pace.

I hold an enhanced DBS check and create a safe, supportive space for both young learners and adults.
