About Maria

My passion is to help people with disabilities reach their highest potential and find their place in the world. I can provide your student with friendly, warm, caring, structured, and rigorous support.

I have been a high school special education teacher for the last 8 years. I am very familiar with IEPs and can help your child attain their annual goals. I have taught most high school special education subjects including but not limited to English, Algebra, Geometry, Liberal Arts Math, US History, Economics, Government, Biology, and HOPE.

I hold certifications in Special Education (all grades), Elementary Education, Social Sciences (6-12), and ESOL.

I enjoy working with students of all abilities. I have worked with students with intellectually disablities, autism, social and emotional needs, Down's Syndrome, and students with varying exeptionalities. I know how to provide accommodation and modifications.

Teaching has run in my family for the last few generations. Both of my parents were educators and so were my grandmothers. I consider myself to be a life-long learner and I hope to pass that passion on to my students.

I have a Master's degree in Social Science Education from USF. I have taught for 8 years.

About the lesson

I would first read their IEP and talk to their parents. I like to talk to the studetns and ask them how they prefer to learn, what their favorite subject is, and who their favorite teacher was and why.

I have worked with students with IEPs. I have worked with students of all exeptionalities from Intelletually Disabled to gifted.

Look for a teacher that is going treat you professionally. They talk to you in a way you understand but they don't talk down to you. They want to get to know you and they teach you in your learning style. They know your IEP goals and they will strive to help you meet those goals. They will explain to you what they are doing and why.

The high school I work at put together a drive through celebration for the graduating seniors. It was great to see my seniors celebrate their amazing acheivement and congratulate them face to face!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
They should think about how they like to learn and what type of assignments teachers give that they have a hard time with.
