About Matthew

As someone who has taken formal lessons as well done plenty of learning on their own, I understand what learning guitar is like and what it should be like.

My name is Matt Chiorazzi and I'm both a teacher and learner. More than anything, I'm passionate about my students' success and seeing through that they're getting the quality attention they need to be able play guitar how they want.

At first, guitar can seem difficult or challenging, but the learning process does not have to be that way. My focus is on beginner to intermediate level players who feel they need that push to get to the next level.

I've been an elementary school teacher for over 10 years now and it's what I do best. Guitar is my passion and I want to bring in my teaching skills to make learning guitar fun, exciting, and accessible for all types of students.

I have a BA in elementary education with an English as a Second Language Endorsement. Formally, I know how to teach and am willing to individualize every educational plan for each student I work with. With me, you not only get someone who is empassioned about teaching, and teaching well, but you get an experience that will propel you to the next level of playing that you're seeking.

I started teaching when I was in highschool and got hooked ever since. I'm now 28 and have been teaching for the past decade so I'm not new to the educational system as well as best practices.

I have a Bachelors in Elementary Education with an English as a Second Language Endorsement.

I've worked as a substitute teacher for years, worked in educational programs at zoos, and have been in more classrooms than most that are my age.

My entire adult life has been comprised of educational settings and teaching guitar would just be another extension of that.

First comes assessing where the student is currently at. Once I have a degree of knowledge of where they are at then we can discuss where they would like to go.

When we have a firm understanding of what skills we possess we can start with the exercises I see fit which will help strengthen the muscles the student needs to do whatever it is they want to end up accomplishing.

Do you want to play lead guitar? Or is it that you want to play rhythm in a band? Would you like to sing and play? Do you want to learn some classic songs that make you feel like a rock legend when you play them?

It all really depends on what *you* want. I'm a teacher first and what I want more than anything is to inspire and create an atmosphere where everything is possible so long as we take the steps together to achieve that dream.

I've worked with just about every age group in the K-12 age range in my years teaching, mainly as a substitute teacher in Bellevue, Washington.

Advice I'd give to a student looking to hire: make sure you know what you'd like to accomplish. If you're a highly advanced student, I may not be for you. But if you're a beginner to intermediate student that has hit a wall then I would be perfect for helping you improve at your craft.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
A question students should think through before talking to teachers about their needs is which needs are most important to know about when pertaining to what is being taught.

I wouldn't go and make a four year old do long stretches between frets if their hands weren't big enough or didn't have the dexterity they needed yet. This would be something I could figure out but would also be great for a student to know going into the lesson so I would have a better idea of where to start.

Prices are negotiable but I want them to be fair. I've been playing guitar for about 18 years now and I believe that will come across. Typically, rates are steep for lessons of this nature but my goal is to make them affordable enough to be a steal for the content you are getting as a student.

First lessons are as follows:

30 minutes - $20

1 hour - $40
