About Glenn

I teach the Practical Aesthetics approach to analysis, experiential rehearsal of scenes, LABAN movement, improvisation and moment-to-moment work, and complete vocal and physical warmups. Acting work is designed to give students practical techniques to take away and use immediately on any part. I have participated in over 110 shows, both in college and professionally in Chicago. I work with straight shows and musicals, and I have directed critically acclaimed productions of Rent, Sonnets Onstage, Chess, Our Town, Tommy, Front Page, and many other shows.

Certificate in teaching for secondary schools from the University of Michigan. Tutor-Aiding and Student Teaching, substitute teaching.

Two years teaching English, music and drama at Fr. Gabriel Richard High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

MFA in Theatre Performance (on scholarship) – Purdue University, 1989

BA in Theatre (on scholarship) – University of Michigan-Flint, 1986

About the lesson

Start with the physical and vocal instrument. Find theatre material that is suitable for the particular student. Analyze the text using solid theatrical techniques. Work and fine-tune the scene(s). Give the student a chance to bring themselves to the role. Perform!

Students between 14 and 80.

Also, I periodically teach acting workshops at Ann Arbor Civic Theatre, which may be more cost-effective for you. Find out if there is a workshop coming up before you commit to hourly lessons.

Rent was an amazing experience for me and my cast. Now, two years later, we are all still friends. I love how accessible the show is and how real the characters are. The music is awesome, cutting-edge, and exciting. The life-and-death, hanging-on-by-a-thread issues that the characters deal with are offset by a lot of fun, catty, sexy, and silly songs, too.
