About Leo

Recent transplant from NYC where I have written, produced, performed and directed my own musical and solo works. I also have performed on stage, cabaret and film work since youth. I have honed my skills through practice, script analysis, taking directing courses and teaching (the latter help the communication of these learned skills. I have experience working & performing with kids via childrens theatre and directing/teaching at performing arts camps.

Everyone has a dream to be famous but others have the calling to perform, sing, write & tell our stories or make those speeches. As a career, one never knows where the arts where lead. But these skills, at their core, help us to learn to speak loud and clear, to stand tall and confident, to move with purpose and grace (and maybe rhythm). The moment of achievement one has from accomplishing a speech (wedding, church reading, class presentation), memorizing a monologue or song and recieving applause is indescribanle self achievement. I love watching those journeys and realizations. Through positive encouragement in a safe space, realistic goal-setting and WORK (practice Practice PRACTICE - even with talent there is Always work!) we will make progress in the understanding of what it takes to be an actor/performer.

I have always loved the performing arts and singing. Starting with liturgical music and teadings and blossoming into theatre during high school. My raw leadership put me in front of others early on (I used to direct my cousins for our youth family shows). Over the years, via experience and workshops and directing opportunities I have honed these crafts. One of the greatest rewards is the friendships that have grown from teaching theatre AND hearing children sing together.

My college education (CSUHayward, Rio Hondo College & East Los Angeles College) + my domestic and international professional experience has given me insight into performing straight plays, musicals, Shakespeare, Greek, cabaret and concert.

About the lesson

Via conversation we'll find out what the student wants (one of the first rules of scene-work) for the immediate and the long-term. We'll use a couple of fun actor excercises to assess where the student is in thier understanding of basic film/theatre/vocalist knowledge and we'll work from there. Some directors use "repeating" or "line readinngs" as a directing/training method, others will expect the memorization process to be done before an actor is on set/rehearsal - we'll find ways to understand and achieve each process. For those who want to vocalize we will use karaoke tracks to choose a song to work with.
