About Eric

Each lesson is tailored to what your long-term goals are. We will visit each small step along the way at a pace that meets your needs. In my studies at Eastern Michigan University, I was able to take classes such as Voice & Articulation, Characterization, Shakespeare, and Styles for the Actor. In training with a professional voice actor in the field, I have learned which stage techniques can apply, and how other techniques can make a stand-out performance. After doing so, I hope to bring the success I've had with my vocal auditions to your acting pathway.

In lieu of the pandemic, I have also honed some skills in audio engineering and production. We can get you prepared with auditions and home demo reels alike!

I like to take a forward approach and anticipate subsequent steps for each student, since everyone has different needs and goals. A student should never feel like it's their responsibility to bring material all the time. I will always have something prepared to supply for our sessions.

I started to assist with Chelsea Area Players Theatre Workshop in the summer times. A teacher I was assisting at the time was incredibly faulty, so I realized I needed to make up for their lack of effort and ability. Through pulling some strings and doing more work than intended, the production I helped out was one of the most successful shows I've had the pleasure to work on. Since then, I've worked on production after production, helping actors embrace their individual strengths.

I have both a Bachelor of Science and Master's in Theatre Arts from Eastern Michigan University. I interned at Performance Network Theatre for two years. I then became a company member for Neighborhood Theatre Group where I have resided for 4 years. In those four years, I took a haitus to Chicago where I directed a one-man show, and performed in a sketch comedy show with Cornservatory Productions. Recently, I have been increasing my online voice credits, particularly in fiction for podcasts.

I have instructed 4th-8th graders at a Theater Workshop Camp for about ten summers. That involved devising and producing a 30-minute show in less than two weeks. This explosion of creativity isn't possible without enthusiasm and curiosity.

About the lesson

I want to see what the student already understands and knows, and build from there. While looking at the positive aspects the student is already exhibiting in the performance, I will be looking for smaller ways to build. Some of the most frustrating experiences I have when being directed is receiving unmeasured criticism. When I direct and instruct, I foster a safe space and learning environment for us all to explore together.

There are a variety of topics I have taught to a variety of students, but I have primarily focused on middle-schoolers, and have been teaching adults for a handful of years now.

There are teachers out there that neglect the steps involved in improving a performance. They'll overtly simplify their notes in order to get some sort of performance they can only see in their minds. We will develop your skills together to construct a wonderful, mindful, and visceral performance.

In the summer of 2018, I put on a sketch show with middle schoolers where they wrote and devised the sketches. They were able to voice their experiences through group writing sessions. Through rehearsal and exercises, the show was a hit among parents. It is one of the most successful experiences I have to date.

Yes, my lessons are typically $40 per session, which are typically an hour long. First time students get a FREE trial lesson, and I charge $70 at the second lesson. Every lesson afterwards is $40.
