About Valerie

We teach actors to audition successfully. Doing the job is the fun part. Auditioning is the tricky part. But it's easier when you know what to expect, and how to bring your A-game with confidence and joy.

When I first went to the Weist Barron School I studied with some terrific instructors. Most actors at some point feel like giving back what they have learned, and I was no exception. I learned even more from being a casting director and still more from directing performances. As a coach I love waking up actors to what is possible and empowering them to make strong choices in their work.

I started as an actor/singer/dancer. I worked in musicals then moved into on-camera, working in commercials, voice-over and Soap Opera. I've been an independent casting director and I am currently an agent working for an NYC talent agency.

About the lesson

First I want to know the students goals, their background and experience. We (I) work with actors at every level so it's OK if they are just starting out, or if they've been in the business for a while. Training is important at every stage. A beginner needs a lot of information about the'how to'. A more experienced actor needs practice and exposure to industry professionals. All actors need support and encouragement.

I have worked with individuals who have just walked in and said 'I want to be an actor'. I have worked with actors who have been successful in theater and now want to work on-camera. I've worked with children and seniors and everything in the middle.

Acting is not a hobby or part-time job. Only get involved because you are passionate about the art form and willing to work hard. Don't waste my time if you are thinkng I can provide a short cut to fame and fortune.

I recently directed two original one-act plays for the Gallery Black Box Festival which were a joy to put on for the first time.

I hosted a successful industry guest night in August where many of the actors received followup calls from the guest agents.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Time, Money, Passion. Pursuing the arts (any art) costs money. Acting involves classes, photos, casting sites, clothing, grooming. Also time - Starting out you can still have a full-time job. But once you start to audition you must have flexibility. And you must make sacrifices. If you have a passion and this is going to be your lifes work (as you see it right now), then you will find a way to make it happen. But really think ... will nothing else bring me joy. If the answer is yes then go for it.

Private coaching at my home studio is $35 and hour. Coaching and filming auditions is $40.

Six-session courses with WB Workshops taught at a mid-town studio cost $275.
