About Flo
I have studied with the best. I teach the best practices in the field. And I customize that training to match the interest, willingness to learn, and personality of each student. Every student that studied with me has left with a personal sense of achievement, whether they studied one-on-one of in a group setting.
I enjoy the sense of give and take that comes with teaching: I learn from my students as they are learning from me and/or their peers. There is no match for that moment of discovery that comes with mastering a skill that you love. I also love being able to share the expertise and experiences I've gained from acting and directing and coaching.
I started as a subsitute teacher when i was training with Duane Jones at the Richard Allen Center. In 2003 I started teaching on my own and have done so in San Francisco, Oakland, and New York. I have also taught public speaking in the City University of New York System (Medgar Evers College, City College of New York).

I start with a phone interview. This is followed, if appropriate, by an in-person interview. After which a schedule is determined and classes and/or preparation for the requested work is begun.
I ahve worked with children, teens, young adults, adults, and seniors. I have taught professional actors, amateur actors seeking to become professionals, and students without any training or desire to become professional actors.
I would advise students to look for someone who knows what they want to learn, and who has a personal style that matches their style of learning. I would also advise them to prepare to work outside the in-person class hours and to realize that every experience is a learning experience if you accept it that way.
