About Nancy

I love helping students learn new things. I believe that everyone can be a good student. It's important to find the best way for you to learn because there are lots of different learning styles. I love that magical moment when a student gets a concept that they have been struggling with and their face lights up.

I have been working with middle school aged students for the last six years. I have done mostly math intervention, with some language arts, science, and social studies as well. I attended the University of Northern Colorado and enjoy living in Colorado.

I have always wanted to teach. I was blessed to have great teachers as I grew up and I wanted to give back and help other students when I became an adult. I decided to work in special education because I have known some amazing people in my life who have inspired me through their struggles with their disabilities.

I attended the University of Northern Colorado to get a teaching degree in elementary education. However, I ended up working with middle school special needs students instead and I love it!

About the lesson

I like to get to know a new student. I want to hear about what they are doing in school and what they like to do for fun. It's important to understand them as a person in order to find the best ways to help them learn.

I have mostly worked with middle school aged students, 6th through 8th grade. I have tutored some high school students as well. I work with the special education students at school but I tutor all students.

Make sure you find someone you feel comfortable working with. Don't be afraid to ask questions.

A student I started tutoring recently got her report card. It was the first report card since I had started working with her. She was ecstatic because it was the first time she ever got a report card with any failing grades.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What do you specifically need help with? You can't just say, "I don't get it." You have to figure out what part you aren't getting. Never be afraid to ask questions if you don't understand something.
