About Drew
I am a working interpreter in the community and not someone who has no knowledge of the language and the community.
I am also willing to meet via Zoom.
I got started teaching ASL at a private school looking for an enrichment program for their after school program. The program concluded with a show case of each class. It was a rewarding and fun experience that I opened classes up to anyone who wants to learn.
I am currently working as an ASL interpreter. Working in my field I have to continuously learn and grow. I attend around 4 to 5 workshops per year and have two mentors that have far more knowledge and experience than I do. I have over 10 years experience as interpreter.

I ask their prupose for them learning the language and find out if there is any past experience. I explain the language and the differences between the ASL and other sign languages. After that, I begin the student with the letters & numbers. Depending on why the student is learning depends on what I teach them next and how.
I have worked with students from 7 to adults. I have taught in both a group & individuals.
Any teacher of ASL needs to be a working interpreter with at least 10 years of experience. Their teacher should be invovled with the d(D)eaf/hard of hearing community. Their teacher should actively be taking classes or workshops to improve their skill.
I recently taught a woman with sever hearing loss. I was able to teach her and her husband enough signs over a course of 2 years enough ASL for them to basic conversations once her hearing is gone. They were so thankful. It was a really rewarding experience.

Details
One trial Class for 30 minutes is $20 for one person
Classes once a week for a month
Children:
4-7 years old $40 per person for 30 minutes
8-13 years old $45 per person for 30 minutes
13-17 years old $55 per person for an hour
* Parents must stay within eye sight of their children ages 8-17 & parents of 4-7 must accompany their child at ALL times.
Adults 18 & up: $60 per person an hour
Classes twice a week for a month
Children 13-17 years old $130 per person for an hour
Adults 17 years old & up $150 per person an hour
* Group and family rates are available upon request and depends on number of students, ages, and length of class.
* Rates for students seeking classes than twice a week for a month are available upon request and depend on number of students, ages, and length of class as well as duration of the class.
* A discount is available for senior citizens and school board employees. School board employees must verify employment.
