About Natalie

Over the Hill Outdoors provides custom, private, and semi-private outdoor education for adults. Spring through Fall, I offer professionally certified instruction in traditional archery, canoeing, kayaking, and whitewater kayaking, all based in the Minneapolis – St. Paul area.

Talking together, we will devise custom instruction specific to your goals. My main focus is on giving you a solid foundation, so that you can have confidence in getting out there safely and competently on your own. Whatever instruction you are receiving, I have a variety of games, tips, and tricks to keep it fun.

For traditional archery instruction, I use many outdoor ranges all around the metro area. We’ll choose one for your convenience. So long as ranges are dry and temperatures are comfortable, we can shoot!

Paddle sports have many variables, and we have options all around the metro and nearby, depending on where you are, what you want to do!

I absolutely love getting people excited and started with activities that I enjoy myself. It’s so much fun when I see my students realize, “Yeah, I CAN do this!”!

The custom-private format really lets me connect with each student, and I often feel like I have made a new friend with each session.

Teaching is just a natural extension of enjoying these activities and wanting to share what I love to do myself!

For Archery, I am professionally certified by USA Archery as a Level 2 Coach and Judge. I enjoy competing regionally and nationally in target and 3D tournaments, and manage to win or place on a regular basis.

For paddle sports, I am professionally certified by the American Canoe Association as a level 4 Whitewater Kayak Instructor and Level 1 Canoe Instructor, including Adaptive Paddling Endorsement.

I've worked with all ages and learning styles! My clients range in age from late teens to late 70s. I especially enjoy working with people who may have various physical challenges, or someone who simply wants or needs a more moderate pace of instruction and more attention on them.

Certification is one measure of professionalism, so that you can have confidence that your instructor knows the industry standards inside and out. You also want your instructor to have a good amount of experience teaching people like yourself. Communication is key and your instructor should be able to adapt to your communication style to give you the information you need. Talk with them before committing, and see how it goes!

I really enjoy following the barebow archers in national and international target and 3D competition. Recently, the Lancaster Classic and NFAA nationals both featured traditional archers reaching upper level brackets in competition for the first time.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
You can't know what you don't know, and there is probably more to know than you imagined! Be clear with what your main goals for instruction are, share those with your instructor, and be realistic about what it might involve. One session can give you a good foundation and overview, becoming proficient will take practice and regular coaching.

If you have particular concerns or fears, be assured that you are not the first! Ask your instructor about whatever it might be, and how they would address that for you.

Her explanation of the equipment and the safety protocols of the shooting range were excellent.
Natalie showed great patience as we picked up the basics to get started.
Now we got to shoot arrows!
It seemed amazing at how quickly we improved with Natalie’s guidance.
We also got to shoot at balloons for some fun.
