First off let me start by saying when I first spoke with Rick I explained that I had recently been diagnosed with a medical condition and requested he be patient with me through the learning process. He has been more than accommodating and he has made each lesson a fun learning experience . I told Rick that my goal was to be able to go to Jam sessions and fit in and be able to play along ,since i started he has been preparing me with a solid repertoire and skill set to be able to accomplish this task. I have been to a few teachers over the years and Rick is the first one that truly gets “it” . I would give Rick a solid “A” if I were to give him a grade if anybody is looking for a great Banjo teacher .

Really chill guy. He accommodated to my abilities and made the lessons fun. He also pushed me to practice a lot, which wasn't hard to do because it's fun! We ended up starting almost every lesson with talking about a new passion like a certain kind of musical sound we don't hear every day or a fun motivational speaker or a new band, etc. Be prepared for a relaxed and fun hour.

I had a great first lesson with Ricky, he is very talented, easy going and a fun person to work with. I'm looking forward to the next lesson. In the meantime, I've got plenty of practice work on my hand that I am looking forward to digging into. Ricky has exceeded my expectations for a first lesson!

I’m not your average banjo student. I’d been self taught since high school and when I retired I decided I wanted to learn to play properly so I looked for a teacher. I found Ricky Mier online and with some trepidation I started my lessons. My trepidation stemmed from the fact that I was a hacker and Ricky is an experienced professional and an exceptional player. I thought I wasn’t the kind of student he was looking for. My anxiety was groundless because Ricky is much more than a great player, he is a committed holistic teacher. Our sessions are fun, challenging, and are focused on not only musical exercises but also tendon training, relaxation, and learning to listen. I’ve been with him weekly for almost 9 months now and while no one will mistake me for Bela, my playing has greatly improved.
