About Madeline

I love teaching. I believe that sharing knowledge and fostering curiosity are fundamentally important for us as people. School is hard, this year especially. We can overcome the long-term impacts of the pandemic. I want to see your child succeed academically. I earned my undergraduate degree from Emory with a double major in Philosophy and Neuroscience. I have experience tutoring high schoolers in biology, psychology, music theory, and French. I also have taught three semesters of undergraduate courses at UC Berkeley: Biological Clocks and Introduction to Biological Psychology. I have extensive experience with manuscript editing as well, so I can make an English paper stand out.

It's incredibly gratifying seeing the pride a student feels as they grasp difficult material. It's that spark of confidence and curiosity that pushes them forward with an actual eagerness to learn. Sometimes, students struggled in the courses I taught. I made a priority to give them the space to accept the mistakes, but also to know that I want them to succeed and that they can always ask for help. The only stupid question is the one left unasked, but I'm here for that. Isn't that what tutoring is about?

No matter where I've been, the students who have stuck with me and worked hard have achieved strong grades. I have taught undergraduate courses at UC Berkeley in a position that doubled as a tutor and a lecturer. I would give a lecture and then have office hours where I would meet with a small group of students to help them work through questions. To qualify for that role, I took a semester-long teaching course that covers instructional strategies as well as professionalism as an instructor. I have informally tutored students in grades 8-10 while I was in high school. The students who consistently showed up managed to pull their failing grades mid-semester up to Bs at the end.
