About Sharon

I have over 20 years teaching experience, and I still get excited when a student suddenly grasps a concept with which they had been struggling! I teach at the college level, but the vast majority of my teaching has been to non-science majors. As a result, I am very experienced in finding more than one way to explain a single concept.

QUALIFICATIONS

PhD University of Florida - Geological Sciences: Paleoceanography & Paleoclimatology

MS SUNY College at Buffalo - Multidiscilpinary Studies in Earth & Environmental Sciences

BS Southampton College of Long Island University - Marine Science/Geology

I won a teaching award in graduate school, and I have been promoted to full professor at my job as a college professor at Utica College, New York. I am proud to say that I started the major in Geoscience at my institution and that I get to share my love of earth, ocean, and environmental sciences with students!

I enjoy working with students at all levels! And I enjoy working just as much with students for whom science is not their main area of interest or strength as with those who love it!

About the lesson

I meet with students on Zoom on days & times set in consultation with you. I will email you the needed link.

Once we meet in Zoom, I will ask you to orient me by describing your class, the topics you've covered, the topic(s) you are curently working on, and those with which you are struggling.

I will ask you to explain some of the related topics to me so I can get a sense of your understanding of the subject matter and to identify where I can see you have some gaps or confusion.

Then we will back up a bit to first provide the foundation knowledge you will need in order to move forward onto the concepts with which you're struggling.
