About Sophia

Hi! My name is Sophia and I am a Health Behavior Science major at the University of Delaware with minors in Biology and Social Entrepreneurship. I've taken Intro Bio 1 and 2, Intro Chem 1 and 2, Anatomy and Physiology, Cell Biology, Organic Chemistry, and countless Health science classes. I have gotten on the Dean's List for my high ranks and recieved a scholarship from the University of Delaware for being a role model "Blue Hen". I also work at the Genetic Editing Institute at Christiana Care where I work in cell culture. I am very passionate about biology and the study of life and excited to help others understand concepts that might be hard to initially grasp! I make sure to word things as comprehendable as I can because I know how difficult and intimidating these topics may seem.

I've been micro-teaching within my own classes. My fellow classmates always know they can depend on me to not judge them for having "dumb" questions. Ever since then, I've been tutoring families I've babysat for, my siblings, and kids outside my classes that have heard of me from friends.

About the lesson

The process I have for a student is first to ask what they already comprehend about a certain topic. This is time for them to tell me that they understand the chemical aspect on a concept but not the metabolic aspect. I can now navigate through the learning experience while emphasizing the concepts the student needs to understand more. I also love questions. I make sure the students asks as many questions they need to without any intimidation or judgement. Biology is a hard topic, no one should be judged for asking valid questions.
