About Sable

Learning about environmental science, how an ecosystem interacts, and the chemistry behind it all has always interested me. I could never know enough, so I am always still researching and learning more for my own personal library. I have been studying and researching environmental topics for almost 10 years, even before then I had a love for spending as much time as possible in the outdoors.

I took as many natural science and hard science courses as I could find throughout highschool, and joined many extra curricular activities surrounding science. I joined scouts to continue getting out in nature and to teach kids about the wonders of the Earth for about 8 years.

I continued on my journey through post secondary education. I attended a joint program between Fleming College and Trent University In Ontario, Canada, for Ecological Restoration. This resulted in 2 years at Fleming College gaining hands on experience and earning a diploma, then 2 years at Trent University gaining theoretical and more scientific knowledge while earning my bachelor's of science. Even after graduating in 2020, I have continued researching and studying for my own pleasure.

I would love to spark this excitement, for learning about the Earth we live on, in students.

I have worked with a variety of ages teaching outdoor skills, science, math, and technology through personal life, family and friends, as well as through my scout journey.

About the lesson

When starting to work with a new student I like to begin by assessing their base knowledge. Understanding where they are coming from helps me know how to tailor lessons and language to the individual. Next, I discover their goals and where they would like their knowledge to be applied, in order to help them feel accomplished as they get closer to their goals. Then, I fill in the gaps, work with them on curriculum needed to be covered, and ensure they are learning and not just jumping through the hoops. My goal with students is that they feel they gained a new understanding of the topic, and feel accomplished in their ability to think critically.
