About Tristan

I am not a smart person, so when I learn something, I need to teach it to myself in the simplest possible way. Because of this I can teach complex topics to just about anyone.

I enjoy helping students learn to love what they study.

I first worked for a scouting camp and worked with middle school and high school students as a Chemistry merit badge counselor. Teaching general chemistry fundamentals and tutoring scouts one on one so they could both understand the topics and apply them.

I am an undergraduate Chemistry student with more than three years working in chemical laboratories. I have a solid general chemical understanding and apply the principals in my work.

About the lesson

Student problems with a subject typically manifest in three different ways. Firstly, the student may not understand preliminary information required to properly study the current subject. Secondly, the student may have incorrect knowledge about the topic which needs to be identified and re-taught. Lastly, a student may not be equipped with the proper study tactics for the subject at hand or may struggle with academic discipline. I try to identify these problems and tutor in a way as to have the student lay a firm foundation for future skill growth in each subject.

I have worked with middle school students and high school students.

There is the obvious list of things to look for such as experience with tutoring, past student recommendations, etc. But in my experience, these three traits are the most important.

1. The student is improving, there is proven increase in academic ability.

2. The student is motivated and curios about the subject matter

3. The student doesn't hate the subject.

I had pistachio ice cream for the first time in my life a month ago. It was beyond comprehension. Its the small things in life, enoy them.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Up to a point, the more you try to solve a problem yourself, the more you will understand about the problem. Knowing the problem will enable the student to ask better questions and "get" concepts more quickly.
