About Eric

I have a strong background in chemistry, having recently graduated with a Ph.D in chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin. I am good at explaining things multiple ways and helping students to truly understand the material.

I enjoy helping people understand chemistry, it's very gratifying to see the light come on in people's eyes. I think there are a lot of high school and college chemistry teachers out there who may know the material but can not teach it effectively. Anyone can understand chemistry with the proper instruction.

I have worked as a teaching assistant in grad school for both lab and lecture courses. I started tutoring on the side during grad school to provide extra income.

I have a B.S in chemistry from Texas Tech University and a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin. My Ph.D. research focused on inorganic and materials chemistry.

About the lesson

I focus on understanding core concepts then applying them to problems instead of simply focusing on how to get the right answer. This allows students to perform better on exams, as truly understanding the material prevents confusion when presented with questions they haven't seen before. I like to explain things several different ways and to use real-world examples to explain concepts in a way that is easy to visualize.

I've worked with several high school chemistry students as well as UT students in freshman chemistry.

Find someone who explains things in a way that makes sense to you, and someone who wants you to understand the material instead of simply teaching you how to solve problems by memorization.

I will be relocating to San Diego in August to work as a researcher at UCSD. Visiting San Diego and seeing the ocean was awesome, I'm excited to be moving there.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think it's important to make sure you're applying yourself before seeking out extra help. Tutoring will not help a student who is unmotivated, but can be a great benefit to someone who gives it their best shot.
